Chair-Person & Secretary
Chief Financial Officer
My passion for working with individuals with disabilities in Employment Supports through the Ministry of Community and Social Services has provided me with a fulfilling career and what I believe to be my unique calling for over 18 years. While working in this capacity, it became repeatedly evident that Youth with Intellectual Disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder were lacking support following secondary school for continued development of social skills required to participate in recreation, community and employment. An innovative program has been designed to meet the unique needs of this group and fill the gap with the services our community needs. I am blessed to have been a part of this fabulous development and launch Checkered Door Academy.
Throughout my secondary school and university years, I have worked and volunteered supporting children, youth and adults with special needs and mental wellness. It has been a privilege to engage with individuals in settings such as drop-in centers, child protectives services, libraries, group homes and school boards. My passion found me as I continued to engage in meaningful support and practice with young adults. Graduating with a Bachelor of Social Work partnered with my passion for supporting young people, allows me to engage in meaningful and holistic practice with the students I support at Checkered Door Academy. This Community Agency offers a unique and much-needed program for individuals leaving secondary school to assist in the development of knowledge and skills to live more independently and fully. Checkered Door Academy is a valuable Community Service Provider, bridging the gap between secondary school and planning for transition to adulthood. I am proud to be on board!
Throughout my career, I have had the great privilege to work alongside families and individuals with diverse-abilities to achieve their goals and participate successfully in their home and community settings. I have completed a BA in Psychology as well as a Behaviour Intervention
certification, and supporting children, youth and adults through behaviour intervention therapy, education, and mentorship has been my passion and joy for over 10 years. I am so thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful team supporting young adults in their journey toward growth and wellness. Checkered Door Academy offers a unique and holistic approach for teaching the skills that foster independence and self-confidence while planning for adulthood. This valuable opportunity serves a great purpose and I look forward to learning with you!
